Rotary Club of North Jackson to Read at Walton Elementary School by Clinton Smith

The Rotary Club of North Jackson initiated a partnership with Walton Elementary School and Mississippi Public Broadcasting in October 2013 to read to pre-kindergarten children in the "Between the Lions" program.  Volunteers are needed so that a club member can read weekly. The school is about a mile north of Woodrow Wilson Avenue, and about a mile south of Northside Drive. The school is very pretty and very clean. The picture below shows the front of the school from across Bailey Ave, looking East.

The name of the BTL facilitator is Katherine Jordan. Her cell number is 601-608-8080. Email is kg.nelson@hotmail.com. She will be in the classroom three mornings a week.
 
Parking is available across the street from the front of the school, or in the unreserved parking places directly in front of the school on the same side.
 
Volunteers may go to the school between 0800 and 0930 Monday through Friday. Always introduce yourself to the office staff as a member of the North Jackson Rotary Club, and sign in. When you are shown to the classroom, a book will be provided either by Ms. Sandifer or Ms. Jordan. It will be easy to read within 20-30 minutes. Kids love a lot of interaction, and you are not required to finish the whole book in one setting.Image
 
Always call Ms. Sandifer the day before you plan to go because activities such as field trips come up which may require that the students be out of the classroom.
