Eternal God, Source of comfort and hope for us in daily
life and Giver of guidance to those who seek it, the mys-
tery of your Being overwhelms us, the intimacy of your
love overshadows us, the magnitude of your mercy
amazes us, your majesty and power fill us with awe.
Yet you condescend to come to us in the simplicities of
life and in the midst of our sometimes chaotic
existence. We are humbly grateful for your
indwelling Spirit whispering to us the assurances we
need.

Too often we take for granted the priceless
realities of life. We ask forgiveness for indifference
and for the cavalier assumption that what we have
and are, we have attained ourselves. Help us to be
increasingly aware of our need for dependence on you
in faith.

Grace our gathering here today with your
presence. Guide and strengthen us to pursue with
confidence the purposes for which we exist as a club.
We cherish your endorsement of our mission to serve

Weekly Thought. This week’s Rotary Foundation
Thought is about our Rotary Foundation.

November is Rotary Foundation month! It's a good
time to reflect on the great Rotary Foundation spon-
sored programs we support and on how each of us
can contribute to make sure these programs con-
tinue.Our Rotary Foundation sponsors a broad range
of Educational and Humanitarian programs that save
and change lives here and abroad: Group Study Ex-
change (GSE), Ambassadorial Scholars, Polio Erad-
ication, District Matching Grants and Health/Hunger
& Humanity (3H) Grants, to name a few. These pro-
grams are the lifeblood of Rotary, creating world
peace and understanding through the lives touched
by the programs. Ask any past GSE team leader or
any Rotarian who has visited/worked on an interna-
tional project about the difference made by these pro-
grams . . . there are many wonderful stories of saved
and changed lives around the world.

Our contributions to The Rotary Foundation fund these
Rotary programs. While our Foundation is quite healthy
(one of the largest Foundations in the world), there is
so much more we need to do. Your annual contribution
and/or a contribution to the Foundation permanent fund
(through a major gift or benefactor contribution) fuels
our Rotary programs. A contribution to the Foundation is
one of the best investments you can make with nearly
100% going to Rotary programs that save and change
lives.

Each of us is encouraged to learn more about The
Rotary Foundation and make a contribution to continue
saving and changing lives. These programs work and
are a great investment for a better and safer world.

Meeting Relocation. The relocation to the
Manship Wood Fired Kitchen location on
Poplar St. in Belhaven has been delayed
until late November or early December
due to project delays. Please be on the look-
out for further announcements as to the
date and the address on Poplar St.

Billy Brumfield House. The Rotary Club of North Jackson
is serving supper once a month at The Billy Brumfield House,
a Stewpot Community Services ministry. Our club serves on
the 1st Tuesday of each month. Interested members need to
meet @ Baker Donelson located at the corner of Eastover
Drive and the I-55 North Frontage Road @ 5:15 PM and
then travel together to Billy Brumfield. Also, if you are in-
terested in sponsoring a month, the est. cost is $180 for
the food. Mike Dawkins is project chair and can be reach-
ed @ 601-351-2428 or mdawkins@bakerdonelson.com.
Between the Lions. Please remember to sign up for Be-
tween the Lions . We read weekly to pre-Kindergarteners
at William Walton Elementary School on Bailey Ave. It is
a wonderful experience! The children are truly information
sponges and very willing learners. Contact Jenny Price

UN, Rotary work together for peace

We celebrated a great United Nations Day at Toronto City Hall on 23 October, hosted by the United Nations Association in Canada Toronto Branch. President Syed Khusro did an excellent job of coordinating the event and including Rotary.

A highlight for me was the outdoor ceremony, where the flag of the United Nations was raised over Toronto accompanied by the Canadian national anthem. Yes, the UN flag now flies over the city of Toronto. The release of several white doves symbolized our hope for world peace.

The UN Association had a great idea for engaging participants. Each Sustainable Development Goal was mounted on a card for display. Attendees were invited to select their favorite and have a selfie taken with Syed and me. An enjoyable time of fellowship and visitation ended the event, with refreshments and cake cutting.

It was great to be part of this event and continue to build a relationship between Rotary and the United Nations Association in Canada. We will be introducing them to Rotary clubs in the greater Toronto area with a view of sharing program resources and possible membership development for both organizations. Jackson Real Estate Developers Speak to Rotary -Club of North Jackson

Jackson Real Estate developers Ted Duckworth and
Breck Hines spoke to the Rotary Club of North Jack-
son at its November 8, 2016 meeting. The subject
of their presentation was the 21 acre District at East-
over, a new, grassroots multi-use development at the
intersection of Eastover Drive and I55 in Jackson. The
development, which includes residential, retail, and
office space is nearing completion. A Marriott Resi-
dence Inn and an office building are completed and
occupied. A bank is scheduled to open in early Decem-
ber. Other buildings are scheduled to be completed
over the next 6 months.

We thank them for their presentation and for their

commitment to the City of Jackson.

MS Secretary of State Speaks to Rotary Club of North Jackson

Hon. Delbert Hosemann, Mississippi Secretary of State, spoke to the Rotary Club of North Jackson during its October 18, 2016 meeting. The primary subject of his presentation was tools for business development developed by the Office of the Secretary of State. His office has developed a website named Y'all Business (address https://yallbusiness.sos.ms.gov/business) for use in business development activities. He described and demonstrated the information on the site. Mr. Hosemann also discussed the success which the State has had with the federal government (Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice) in its adoption and approval of its Voter ID law. He attributed the success of the law to the mutual working attitude which Mississippi used in approaching the Department of Justice. Mr. Hosemann also stated his office is fully digital and it has eliminated millions of pieces of mail annually by the utilization of electronic reporting and filing saving millions of dollars for Mississippi citizens. In his words, the Mississippi Secretary of State is the leader nationally in the use of electronic records. In response to a question, Mr. Hosemann said that the voting computers the State of Mississippi uses in elections are not connected to the internet and thus are not subject to hacking by intruders.

Downtown Jackson Partners' Representatives Speak to Rotary Club of North Jackson

Ben Allen, President, Downtown Jackson Partners
and Brittany Cain, Executive Director, Team JAXN
spoke to the Rotary Club of North Jackson at its
October 11, 2016 meeting. Mr. Allen discussed
progress in the redevelopment of downtown Jack-
son from the construction and inhabiting of resi-
dences in the downtown area to the "One Lake"
project that is expected to develop a riverwalk
area in the downtown district as well as reduce
the potential for flooding of the Pearl River. This
project is expected to be approved for construction
in 2017. Federal Funds for its construction are ear-
marked, but have not been allocated to date. The
U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, the State Congress-
ional delegation, as well as local governments have
all "signed-off" on the project.

According to Mr. Allen, since the formation of DJP,
downtown Jackson has become the safest place to
be in the Metro Area. He cited the growing number
of downtown residents who currently occupy the
King Edward Hotel, The Standard Life Building, the
Electric Building, the Plaza Building plus the plans
for the Lamar Life Building, the Old Federal Court-
house (on Capitol St.) and several others.

Ms. Cain discussed the role of Team JXN, which
according to its website is "TeamJXN is an organization
committed to showcasing the growth and positive mo-
mentum rising up in Jackson, Mississippi. From busi-
ness and restaurant developments to entrepreneurial
successes, we want to build community and create an
agenda that supports positive things happening in our
great city. To boil it down, we are a passionate group
of cheerleaders for Jackson who are intentional about
making sure good things continue to happen here.

TeamJXN isn't about a political or business agenda.
Our goal is to provide the community opportunities
engage in this great city, while aligning ourselves
with key projects that will make our city better
for citizens and visitors. As the organization contin-
ues to grow, we plan to develop programs connect
people, places and organizations that will help bring
people to Jackson and keep people in Jackson.

By putting the right tools in the hands of Jackson
entrepreneurs and engaging with existing busi-
nesses in the city, TeamJXN hopes to inspire growth
and attract talent to help this city reach its full potential."

She closed with a request which again for the web-
site is "To help us do this, we need people like you.
Get involved by joining and volunteering on a committee."

We thank Mr. Allen and Ms. Cain for their presenta-
tions and for what they are doing to improve our
